MAR2INA

Born in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, in 1995. MAR2INA is the first Taiwanese artist that broke with tradition by graffitiing on temples and spontaneously created the first graffiti sports car and the first graffiti tour bus in Taiwan.

The German word “MARINA” originally denotes “woman of the ocean,” and it also carries the meanings of artistic talent, passion for colors, and meticulousness. She incorporates the number “2” into her name, symbolizing her lucky number, her birthday, and the pronunciation of the Chinese word “兔 (tù),” which stands for “rabbit”.

Since childhood, she has been a loner and enjoyed drawing alone. During her kindergarten years, one of her classmates accidentally bumped into her brush while she was drawing, which affected the composition of her painting. Instead of asking her to repaint, the principal extended the wrongly drawn lines into a fish shape, enlightening MAR2INA to never fear making mistakes. This habit of embracing mistakes has since fostered MAR2INA’s spontaneous and uninhibited creative approach. MAR2INA compares her creative process to a diary without words and only filled with images. MAR2INA doesn’t like any arrangement made beforehand.

Instead, she has the ability to transform every depicted object into her own element and naturally construct her unique worldview. By appreciating each of her artworks, one can perceive the artist’s freshness, curiosity, and contemplation toward every aspect hidden within the symbols depicted in the paintings. The actions and gestures of the characters vividly convey the atmosphere of the overall environment.

MAR2INA’s charm lies in her capability to naturally and seamlessly incorporate surreal events and objects into her artwork as if they existed and belonged from the beginning.
