ABOUT
Takahiko Suzuki’s “Global Store Project”, which started from 2006 to 2007 at the Art Site of Chiayi Railway Warehouse, aims to promote local independent stores around the world through his own methods based on the concept of global chain enterprises. The “Global Store Project” generates 2.5D photo models of each local independent store and converts them into advertisement posters featuring a blue sky with white clouds. As a result, performances featuring advertisement placards and photographs are used to promote these independent stores with local characteristics.
This exhibition serves as an important retrospective of the “Global Store Project” over the last 15 years and has been chosen to be held in Chiayi, the project’s birthplace. Following extensive research and creation in various counties and cities in Taiwan and around the world, this exhibition will create a one-of-a-kind world map of independent stores from various countries. It will display the relative positions of each store on a massive world map installation, highlighting Takahiko Suzuki’s years of promoting the “Global Store Project”.
Patisserie, Animal Hospital, Goat Cuisine Booth with Beauty Salon visited during the Chiayi residency period in 2006 are among local independent stores featured in the exhibited work, as are characteristic stores operated independently in various places in Taiwan and abroad, including New York, Okinawa, Osaka, Niigata, Finland, and Australia. Stores that were revisited in Chiayi in 2017, such as Zongzi Shop, Red Bean Pancakes Shop, and Garage, have been added over the last six years, along with independent stores from Tainan, Taitung, and overseas.
